SSAB Student Juried Art Show Submission 2023
The theme for this year's Juried Student Art Show is Our Position. We invite artists to illuminate their position, define or deconstruct placement and displacement, and reveal the intersections of relationships between artist and audience. Our Position will explore the physical and metaphysical orientations of places, thoughts, people, opinions, and memories that impact our lives. We call on artists to submit work that displays their interpretation of “position” while critically engaging the positions of its viewers. Four themes from the Spencer Museum's collection galleries —Displacement, Intersections, Empowerment, and Illumination—provide a springboard for artists to reflect on how differences in social position and power have affected their experiences.
This year’s exhibition will be held virtually on the Spencer Museum's website, along with a one-night only pop-up exhibition in the Spencer Museum's lobby. All work submitted must be availabale for display at the the pop-up event on April 27. If special accommodations are needed, it is the responsibility of the artist to communicate with the Spencer Student Advisory Board.
Only students enrolled at the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University are eligible to submit work. $1,000 in prizes is available with support from the Jack and Lavon Brosseau Student Education Fund.
