SELF Program Recommendation Form

Recommendation letters for four-year SELF fellowship applications (students applying as high schoolers) are due on or before December 1, 2025 at 11:59pm CST.  

Recommendation letters for the three- and two-year fellowship applications (current KU students applying to the program) are due on or before February 1, 2026 at 11:59pm CST. 

We ask that you submit your recommendation letter on time so that the candidate can be considered for a spot in the program. 

For this recommendation, connecting leadership qualities, business skills and potential, and entrepreneurial activity to engineering skillset is of primary importance; academic performance should not be a factor in the recommendation for this Program although professional responsibility and reliability are important.  As you write your recommendations, please focus on highlighting the skills and actions you have observed the candidate demonstrating and the outcomes of those experiences.  We are best able to evaluate the candidate with specific observations than with generalities.  To learn more about the Program and characteristics of an ideal candidate, please visit Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program.
