Graduate Engineering Association (GEA) Professional Development Events

Below is a list of events that GEA hosts for engineering graduate students. Please indicate which event(s) you attended or those that interest you. (You may check more than one box.)

Travel Workshops – GEA offers travel awards to graduate student traveling to conferences to help alleviate the cost. This workshop provides information about the travel fund and goes through the application/award process.

Funding Workshop – There are various sources of funding available to graduate students (grants, scholarships, and fellowships). This workshop will help identify the various funding sources, answer questions and provide advice on the funding application process.

Industry Insight – GEA hosts a night where industry professionals volunteer their time to answer questions, talk about experiences, and list the opportunities in the field of industry.

Academic Insight – GEA hosts a night where faculty (at each level) and post-docs in academia volunteer their time to answer questions, talk about experiences, and list the opportunities in academia.

Research Poster & Presentation Workshops – These workshops provide advice on how to effectively present your research (either in poster or presentation format) to a general audience. Building communications skills prior to graduation is very important.

GEA Social Events

GEA hosts social events throughout the regular fall/spring semester in order to bring graduate students together from all disciplines. Below is a list of past event types. Please indicate which type of events interest you.

Restaurant Event - Happy hour/appetizers

Sports Event - Team sports (Frisbee golf, soccer, softball, volleyball,etc.)

Museum or Art Venue - Cultural discussion and/or entertainment
